Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors WA State Law Requirements
Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors save lives AND Washington State law requires specific installation within every rental and home sale. Here is what you need to know…
Here are links to the specific requirements in the WA state laws:
smoke alarms: https://apps.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=51-51-0314
carbon monoxide detectors https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=19.27.530
These laws were passed in 2010 and apply to every rental and home sale. Even if you are not a landlord or selling a home I highly recommend installing these life saving devices in these locations. I have often heard it is best to change the batteries every 6 months and get a new device every 10 years to be sure they are functioning properly. Many fire departments have suggested changing the batteries twice a year during daylight savings to remind people, when you are changing your clocks, it’s also a good time to change your batteries.
